sew modern monday #34 @ canoe ridge creations

{Sew} Modern Monday at Canoe Ridge Creations

It's been a while since I posted anything here... not for the lack of crafting, but I didn't do anything that really qualified for this kind of post.

But now I have something. It's a little something, but I'd like to share.

This is my take on modern for this week: a diapers pouch in oilcloth fabric (see the specific post for details).

I'm planning to be more 'modern' in my creations and link up to CRC every monday I can. Thanks for visiting!

diapers pouch

I got tired to have baby-change things lost in my bag and I finally sewed a pouch to hold together diapers, bags for dirty "bombs" and wipes.

My bags are NOT small, 'cause I carry around all sorts of things, so the pouch is actually a must.

I made it with a very pretty oilcloth from my local fabric store. Sewing oilcloth goes like a breeze, 'cause you don't need to serge anything... it only took me 10 minutes to finish the pouch, complete with zipper and squared bottom.
Nice. And it fits perfectly in every bag I have.

one more bib

My nephew, Smurf#, needs some more bibs, 'cause it seems that the more you grow up, the more you make a mess at lunch. Funny how that actually applies also *out* of pre-school...

Anyway, Sis told me to go with a yellow pattern, 'cause colors identify classes. I personally don't like yellow too much, but this turned out pretty well.

One down, two more to go.

home longing

I've been watching houses related shows on cable tv. Did you know they are addictive? Now I do.

I've always loved the idea of restoring an old house into something completely new and better. I even did it once with our previous home (well, not alone, obviously). After everything we went through I was sure that never in this lifetime I'd have engaged again in something so hard, complex, time and money consuming, bla bla bla... But... I'd be willing again to try another experience. Yes, it's not the right moment (world being in crisis and all), we just bought a new home, kids are too young and certainly we do not want a mortgage *now*. So this longing for restoring/building a home has to remain a wishful thinking.

I'll stick with tv shows, living vicariously others' experiences, and green buildings newsletters.

Because green buildings are addictive too. In fact, more than a restoring I'd like a new building better. Needless to say, I already have a clear idea as to what exactly I'd like, which is fortunately and happily shared by hubs... want a little hint? here it is.

you should know by now that I like to dream big...

Ah! Now you can see why it's such an improbable dream... Yeah, that's true, that one is a Huf house: possibly one of the very best green building system in the world (and one of the prettiest, too).

If some of you feels like donating me one, please do. I promise I won't be offended by your generosity. Otherwise I'll have to wait til the lottery numbers will match mine...

kindergarden - the never-ending story

I have four nephews: two are in school, one is in pre-school and one in kindergarden. Once in a while, some of them need something handcrafted, and I'm the crafty aunt. Lucky me! No, seriously, I love making something for them.

This time, Sis (who's a totally can-I-have-it-already-made-please person) asked me some bags and bibs for  Smurf#2 in kindergarden.

Yesterday evening I started on this project with the first bag.

I had just the right type of fabric, obviously Ikea, which has a fabulous selection of fabrics for kids. With the considerably positive plus of being super-affordable...

I made a bag for the weekly change, with the name cross stitched.

Isn't this print the cutest ever? It's bright and happy.

For the embroidered part I used cotton emiane and satin ribbon. This time I didn't use an alphabet, but I've  transformed my own handwriting in cross stitch letters. I'm happy with the result.
